In Nigeria, Sierra Leone Labour minister and ILO Director discuss pathways to collaborate
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment, Labour, and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, has concluded a highly productive discussion with Vanessa Phala , the Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO), who oversees Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The meeting, which was held at United Nations Headquarters located on Diplomatic Drive in Abuja, focused on fostering strong ties between Sierra Leone and the ILO.
Minister Swaray emphasized the importance of collaboration to drive progressive transformation and development within his ministry.
Representing President H.E. Julius Maada Bio and the people of Sierra Leone, Minister Swaray, praised the ILO for its strategic interventions in promoting various thematic programs crucial to the ministry’s development.
He assured the ILO of the government’s readiness to collaborate in realizing the presidential commitment to creating 500,000 jobs in Sierra Leone.
In response, Director Vanessa Phala described Minister Swaray’s visit as timely and highlighted the opportunity to synergize efforts and strengthen collaboration.
She outlined the ILO’s ongoing programs in Sierra Leone, including initiatives focused on skills for social inclusion, policy reforms to generate decent employment, social protection, and promoting social dialogue, such as the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP).
Vanessa Phala assured Minister Mohamed Rahman Swaray of the ILO’s steadfast support for his ministry and the government of Sierra Leone in creating and safeguarding sustainable employment opportunities for Sierra Leoneans.
