The Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Nigeria also accredited to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary LUONG QUOC THINH has on Friday 22nd, October, 2021 paid a courtesy call visit on his counterpart, the Sierra Leone High Commissioner designate to Nigeria and seven other countries H. E. Rupert Davies, at his Office located on Plot 308 in Abuja, Nigeria.

During their engagements, the Vietnamese Ambassador first congratulated High Commissioner Davies on his new posting to Nigeria.
He further stated that he was honoured for the visit which was undertaken in order to discuss issues of Mutual benefits to the two countries.

He recalled that during the last 76th General Assembly meeting of the United Nations in New York, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone and President Nguyen Xuan Phuc of Vietnam, had a very fruitful bilateral engagement on how to strengthen cooperation between the two states.

He reiterated that his visit to the Sierra Leone High commission was in continuation to the previous engagements by the two heads of state which is geared towards cementing their bilateral relations.

They also discussed about working towards scheduling a date for the proposed visit of president Bio to Vietnam.

While in Vietnam, according to the ambassador, it is hoped that President Bio would sign a number of agreements that would further enhance the diplomatic relations and create a strong economic connection that would be beneficial to the two nations.

The Vietnamese ambassador said that Sierra Leone and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam had their bilateral ties established way back in 1978 but since then there has been no opening of either an embassy or a consulate to strengthen that bilateral tie. He therefore called on his Sierra Leonean Counterpart to take the discussion further in order to make this happen.

On his part, High Commissioner Rupert Davies thanked ambassador LUONG QUOC THINH for his courtesy call visit and commended the Government and people of Vietnam for their assiduous efforts in the fight against COVID-19.

High Commissioner Rupert Davies also lauded President LUONG QUOC THINH for supporting the government of Sierra Leone especially in the area of agriculture. ” you have revolutionized agriculture and the President Dr. Julius Maada Bio strongly believes that we could learn a lot from each other especially in the area of rice cultivation”, the High Commissioner pointed out.

High Commissioner Rupert Davies further assured his counterpart that the date for President Bio’s proposed visit to Vietnam would be communicated as soon as possible after he had discussed the outcome of their current engagement with the Sierra Leone Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
