Sierra Leone police excel at the institute of police studies in Nigeria

Ten senior police officers from the higher cadres of the Republic of the Sierra Leone Police Force who are undergoing a two Month strategic Leadership Command Course at the National Institute of Police Studies (NIPS) in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria have been rated high.The high rating performance of the SLP candidates was made known during a courtesy visit by cross section of Diplomatic Staff of the Sierra Leone High Commission led by the Head of Chancery Mohamed Sorie Conteh, the Defence Attaché Col. AMN Gbassa and the Information Attache to the Director General at the National Institute of Police Studies (NIPS) Prof. Olu Ogunsakin at Life Camp in Abuja.Addressing the diplomatic staff, the Director General Prof. Olu Ogunsakin said that Sierra Leone is the first country in Africa to benefit from trainings offered at the institute and expressed his excitement for hosting very high calibre, experience and professional police personnel. He hoped that the training institute will serve as a gateway for other Africa countries for the acquisition of knowledge in policing in order to act collectively in addressing the perennial security challenges especially within the sub-region.The Director of Studies at the Institute, Assistant Commissioner of Police Chiocoba Ehiede of the Nigeria Police Force said that the SLP trainees have exhibited high level of competences and capacities at the training sessions that are commensurate to their ranks. He said Sierra Leone has taking the lead by sending the first batch of high ranking police personnel adding that the institute is now in the process of transmuting into an international training epic centre of educational pursuit for police personnel.He said the training will provide the students among others with the needed professional skills and knowledge on safety and security.On behalf of the Sierra Leone High Commission and the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the Head of Chancery Mohamed Sorie Conteh thanked the Director General of the institute Prof. Olu Ogunsakin and the Federal Government of Nigeria for the training programme extended to members of the Sierra Leone Police Force. He appealed to the Director General to provide more opportunities for Sierra Leone Police Force adding that Sierra Leone and Nigeria have very close ties that the two countries always acknowledges for mutual benefits. It is an affiliate of the Nigeria Police Academy Wudil Kano. Its mission is to act as a catalyst for research development that will provide professionals employed in policing and other security organizations with the skills and knowledge to successfully meet their mandates. Human capital development is critical to President Julius Maada Bio New Direction Administration, and the course for the senior police officers was made possible due to request made to the directorate of the training Institute through the Federal Government of Nigeria to enhance the capacities and knowledge base of the selected high profile members of the Sierra Leone police.
