Sierra Leone net 500 thousand dollars from South Korea to support custom services

Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic that is ravaging and destroying the economy of nation states, the Government of Sierra Leone with the astute leadership provided by President Dr. Julius Maada Bio is still creating networks and partnership with development partners to change the development face of the country in a way that Sierra Leoneans would always remain to appreciate. On Thursday, the Ambassador plenipotentiary designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and accredited to Sierra Leone KIM Young-chae disclosed that the Government of South Korea Custom service is supporting the Government of President Bio with a whooping amount of five hundred thousand United State dollars in order to help the rebranding of the Sierra Leone custom service.
He said consulting services of the KCNET Co. Ltd. is currently in Sierra Leone for an initial review of the current status of custom service in Sierra Leone. According to Ambassador KIM Young-chae the consulting firm is in Sierra Leone to do an in-depth review of the specific features of Sierra Leone custom service and make recommendation for implementation and support to improve on the existing structures. “The review started on May 18th and will run to June 24th 2021”, he added. This disclosure was made at the resident of the Ambassador of South Korea at Maitama in Abuja, Nigeria on Thursday 27th, May 2021 at a lunch organized in honour of the outgoing Sierra Leone High Commissioner to Nigeria Dr. Solomon Momoh Christopher Gembeh SR.Dr. Solomon Gembeh in his response commended Ambassador KIM Young-chae and the Government of South Korea for undertaken numerous projects in Sierra Leone that is contributing to national development and peacebuilding efforts of the government of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio. He cited the construction of the Freetown City Hall and the donation of four patrol boats to the Maritime Wing of the Republic of the Sierra Leone Armed Forces among others as outstanding projects supported by the Government of South Korea. He called on the Government of South Korea for a sustained bilateral relationship for mutual benefits. The programme was attended by diplomatic staff members of both the South Korea Embassy and the Sierra Leone High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria.
