President Bio’s Agenda for Gender Equality extolled at women conference in Abuja

Delivering a Goodwill Message at a ground breaking conference organized by the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), the Deputy High Commissioner of the Sierra Leone High Commission to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Anna Moussa, received a mammoth applause from Nigerians and other dignitaries within the diplomatic community when she assured the audience that President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has establish a relevant legal framework that promotes and protects women girls in Sierra Leone.
Whilst delivering her Goodwill message at the M & M Event Centre in Abuja on Tuesday 8th June, 2021, the High Commissioner stated that the theme of the Conference ‘New Awakening for the African Woman’ resonates with Sierra Leone’s development aspirations to promote gender equality with greater focus on women and girls, adding that the President Dr. Julius Maada Bio attaches extreme importance to the promotion of women, emphasising that this was one good reason why the Beijing Declaration was embraced and domesticated.
The Beijing Declaration was a resolution adopted by the UN in order to enforce a set of principles concerning the equality of men and women.

The Deputy High Commissioner spoke on the three gender laws and the establishment of the sexual offences model court to combat sexual and violent domestic offences in the country as lauded steps to protect women and girls.
She called on her colleague women to occupy the front seat at all levels of decision making including taking political leadership in order to contribute to the development of African women.
The National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) is a Nigerian Non-Government, Non-Partisan women’s organization composed of a network of independent women’s organizations in Nigeria with the objective of synergizing its members and advocating for their welfare and general recognition in society. The organization also championed the cause of women in Nigeria and enjoined women to effect change through active participation in the polity on issues and decision making processes especially on matters pertaining to women, youths, children and women living with disabilities. The National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) also creates a platform from which gender issues can be harmoniously tabled before political actors.
The conference ends on Thursday 10th July, 2021 and part of the ceremonial events were trade show and exhibition and a football Gala to climax it all.
