HIGH COMMISSIONER RUPERT AND BULGARIAN AMBASSADOR DISCUSS DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

In a bid to establish and expand a strong bilateral cooperation relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Sierra Leone, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to Nigeria H.E. YANKO V. YORDANOV and the Sierra Leone High Commissioner to Nigeria H.E. Rupert Sydney Dowu Davies have met and discussed pathways intended to foster lasting cooperation between the two countries.


The bilateral engagement came during Ambassador YORDANOV’s courtesy visit to High Commissioner Rupert Davies at the Sierra Leone High Commission located on Plot 308 Diplomatic Drive in Abuja.


In his statement, Ambassador YORDANOV first congratulated his contemporary, High Commissioner Rupert Davies, on his appointment and assured him of his unremitting commitment to work together in order to consolidate the existing relationship between Sierra Leone and Bulgaria.


“My visit to you is part of efforts to expand the diplomatic relations of my mission on behalf of my country and to put my country’s foreign policies on the map as a pathway for sustainable development”, H.E. YANKO V. YORDANOV stated.


He informed High Commissioner Rupert Davies that the National Library of the Republic of Bulgaria is keenly interested in working with the government of Sierra Leone and supports the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as an entry point to kick-start the process.


Ambassador YANKO V. YORDANOV also discussed other development opportunities with the Sierra Leone High Commissioner, including working towards establishing a cooperation with the Sierra Leone Government to support the creation of a diplomatic institute which, according to him, will build a stronger foundation for Sierra Leone’s foreign diplomacy.


The Bulgarian Ambassador also talked about extending an invitation to the Sierra Leone Minister of Defense to witness an annual military trade fair organized by the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense.


On his part, the Sierra Leone High Commissioner, Rupert Davies, thanked Ambassador YANKO V. YORDANOV for his visit and expressed confidence that the visit would serve as a pathway for further diplomatic engagements.
He said that he was posted to Nigeria to create an indelible development mark on behalf of the government and people of Sierra Leone adding that the Library project is a very good start for building a strong foundation for bilateral relations between the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Republic of Bulgaria.


High commissioner Rupert Davies said that the proposal presented to him by Ambassador YANKO V. YORDANOV would be very seriously considered and he assured him of an expeditious action in order to make the implementation of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) a reality.
